JVC Disc America Company is a wholly owned subsidiary of JVC America, Inc., which is owned by The Victor Company of Japan, of which Matsushita held a majority share. CD manufacturing started in 1987. They manufacture CD, CD-ROM, DVD, Xbox, and Xbox 360 (one of three third party authorized replicators) discs. So far we have only found Nirvana discs from 1991 to 1994, including first pressings of Nevermind, Come As You Are and Lithium singles, Incestide, a few compilations, and a promo sampler. Matsushita owned MCA/Geffen at this time, so it makes sense that JVC manufactured Geffen CDs.
The matrix codes are very similar to the Japanese Victor plant, using very thick characters and similar barcodes, as they're both owned by the same company. The matrix codes are explained with The Beavis And Butt-head Experience compilation (GEFD-24613) as an example: MFD BY JVC GEFD24613RE1 1D 1 5
The first part state that it's manufactured by JVC, as all their discs at the time did. Next comes the catalog number followed by RE1, which means remake 1. The first MGM may have been faulty, but as all subsequent MGMs have RE1 in them, it most likely refers to the image-ready CD-R. The folloing number/ letter combination most likely identify the number of the MGM, in this case 1, and the LBR used to master the disc, in this case LBR D. Strangly, there are two Beavis And Butt-head discs with 2C and 2H, maybe they were mastered simultaneously to speed up the process.
The last numbers, in this case 1 5, were added mechanically to the metal plates, to keep track of the various metal parts created from an MGM. They do not identify a particular mould. The first number identifies the number of the mother created from the father, while the second identifies the number of the stamper created from the given mother. In this particular example, it is the fifth stamper created from the first mother.
