The 15 worldwide Sonopress plants form Arvato Storage Media GmbH, one of the four groups under Arvato, which again is a division of Bertelsmann AG, a German media company. BMG, who distributed Nirvana while Sonopress were manufacturing them, is also a Bertelsmann AG division. Sonopress Arvato can take care of the entire process, from pre-mastering to disc replication, printing, packaging, and distribution. Sonopress South Africa (Pty) Ltd. is wholly owned by Arvato Storage Media. Production started in 1996. They now manufacture CD and DVD. They pressed the South African Nevermind CD (sliver.it page), with stampers created from plates (father or mother) which they recieved from the German plant, as the matrix code is identical to German copies. Another pressing has SONOPRESS physically scratched out from the metal plate. It does not look so on the image, but it is in fact very faint. This pressing is also made from metal plates received from the German plant, but obviously pressed by a different South African plant. (It is also entirely possible that the "untouched" pressing was also not done by the South African Sonopress plant, but that the plant which did press it did not scratch over SONOPRESS.) |
