This is the only known Pennyroyal Tea promo, and has only the Scott Litt mix of Pennyroyal Tea. It was pressed in UK, but destroyed because of several errors on the disc: 1. Pennyroyal Tea is spelled Penny Royal Tea. 2. Virgin Music Ltd. should be Virgin Music Inc. 3. The End Of The Music is supposed to be just The End Of Music. 4. The catalog number is NIRPRO, although the matrix code reads NIRPRO 1. Because of all these errors people have questioned themselves whether this is official or not. It is indeed an official item. As detailed on the Pennyroyal Tea GED 21907 page, UK were to press their own singles, Nimbus would press the CD promos. For some reason there were a few errors. The most obvious is the title, Penny Royal Tea. That is actually the correct spelling in British English. There were no set artwork for this promo single, and the person responsible probably wrote what he was used to. Same can be said about the catalog number missing the "1", this was most likely not carefully planned. As for the remaining errors, I do not know. According to the old source for The Collectors' Nirvana Discography, the production was stopped when they noticed the "The End Of The Music" error. They were then stored away, and a new and corrected pressing was ordered. That pressing never happened because of Kurt's death. However, a recent source contradicts the time the error was discovered. According to him, the boxes with the promos were sent to the Geffen office, only to be taken back for destruction when the errors were detected. A minor detail, perhaps, but that means they actually did get to press the quantity they had planned. Normally for these kind of promos that would mean up to 1000 copies split between radio, TV, and sales. These faulty discs would have been rare even if new pressings were pressed, as only a handful of those about 1000 copies survived destruction. 90-95% of the already pressed promos were actually destroyed. A small amount got out in collectors' circles as employees grabbed a few copies. It is hard to speculate on a quantity of promos which escaped. It is pretty rare, probably less than 100. The catalog number is also believable compared to the catalog numbers on other UK promos, like "Rape Me/ All Apologies" NIRVA 1 and "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" NIRVPRO 1. Apparently they didn't have a strict numbering system as they had in US with the PRO-CD-XXXX series. The matrix code also matches other discs made by Nimbus. Last, it has been confirmed to me by three official sources. It was also mentioned in Record Collector, but that does not need to mean anything. Previous reports stated that most came in a slipcase, but since May 2002 there have been a few eBay auctions featuring the promo in a slimline case with a MCA promo sticker which reads "MCA - PROMOTIONAL SAMPLE - NOT FOR SALE". According to "the recent source", all the promos in the boxes came in these slimline cases with the stickers.
