This is a Digital Audio Tape (DAT) with various mixes of Pennyroyal Tea without the vocal tracks. This was made as the band were to appear on the "Top Of The Pops" show, which was strictly live vocal to track (as an example, see the version of SLTS on Live! Tonight! Sold Out!!).
A TV track had not yet been produced, so the producer/ engineer had to get back to the studio and make one solely for the person who was head of TV promotion for MCA at the time (and the source for this information). To his knowledge TOTP was the only live vocal to track show they had agreed to do world wide, so this may be the only DAT they ever made.
