Half blue, half red test/ production pressing, came in a rounded inner plastic sleeve, and a plain white die-cut cardboard sleeve. It was pressed by Festival Records, which has been defunct since 2005. It may have been mastered in-house, but I'm not sure. The one surfaced copy came from a former factory worker, and may be the only white label copy there is. Test pressings are usually done a short while before the retail pressing, so that they have time to recut and replate the record if anything should be wrong. Test pressings are usually done on black vinyl, no matter what color the retail pressing will be on, because that is cheapest and easily available. Because of that, there may be black vinyl test pressings done for this record to test the actual plates, proper test pressings. If so, this red and blue record with white labels is then the first record off the press when pressing the retail pressing, just to get started. Perhaps they wanted to see how the colors worked out together. This means it's not a proper test pressing, but still a production item. One other possibility is that it is a "factory custom pressing" done after-hours by an employee in the pressing plant. Odd one-off pressing has appeared of several records over the years. I am certain that this is not the case here, because those records are ususally real oddities, with A-sides from one record and B-sides from another, or unusual colors. They also usually come with proper labels, though sometimes not the labels which belong to the record in question. There is nothing odd about this record, except the previously unseen perfect half-half of each color, but that makes sense from a production point of view. They just put the two different colors on the press and saw what happened, and for that they used white labels.
