Possible 7" white label test pressing of the planned UK single. 7" sleeves for the retail singles have been found, and according to them it would have two tracks, Pennyroyal Tea and Where Did You Sleep Last Night. These test test pressings may not have been made at all, and they may have been destroyed if they were. The April 1994 special issue of Kerrang! had a competition (images below). Geffen were going to press ten white label test pressings before the single was officially released, and all would go to Kerrang!, which were giving them away to ten lucky readers. (It's not unlikely that Geffen would make a few more than ten test pressings to keep some for reference themselves or at the pressing plant, but the competition claims that only ten would be made, checked, and all given to Kerrang!.) However, Kerrang! never received the test pressings from the label. A later issue of the magazine apologized to the readers, asking them to understand the exceptional circumstances. It is surprising that the record label would organize a competition and not have the prize ready, as faliure to deliver could damage the relationship with the magazine. Maybe they were made, but Geffen decided that they were not appropriate even for the competition and destroyed them, but they were most likely never made. An old document on The Collectors' Nirvana Discography claims that as the 7" test pressings were approved test pressings, they were easily traced and destroyed on site. However, I don't know how accurate this information is. The source was wrong by claiming Geffen UK weren't planning to press their own CD singles, as slimline case inserts were made. Also, an Italian collector once claimed to have a copy which he sold to a Japanese collector. It is not confirmed what that actually was.
