| Nevermind 7" sample(?) pressing | |||||||
|
7" picture disc. The music on it is not Nirvana. The matrix code shows it was made by the Czech pressing plant GZ Vinyl, like the Czech Nevermind releases on Globus. Only one copy has surfaced. Before 1996, it was sold to a collector from an Australian. He again said he got it from Geffen Australia, and that this was a visual test pressing for a once planned Australian 2x7" picture disc set. There is no pressing plant in Australia capable of pressing picture discs, so it is possible that the label requested a picture disc sample (any sample, not necessarily with Nevermind picture or the music present) from GZ Vinyl. It could also have been employees playing with the machines, but due to the cost of that, I doubt it. Pirates are obviously unprofitable if they make only one, so there may be more to it than just the regular pirate story. The front and back pictures add evidence to that it is some sort of a sample. They are cropped versions of the Nevermind 12" pictures used on the Globus picture disc (image 3). You can even see the cross which shows where the center (and spindle hole) of the 12" picture was (image 4). They just used whatever artwork they had available at the moment, placing the manufacture of this picture disc to 1992. (This random use of artwork suggests that no 2x7" Nevermind vinyl was ever planned. That would also require three tracks on each side, which would result in horrible sound quality, if at all possible.) Two other one-off vinyls are made by this plant: Hormoaning 12" and Scratch It Out/ Bikini Twilight KTGT016.
