Nevermind SVLP 0038 test pressing (EMI pressing)
White label test pressing, black vinyl. Appears to be regular weight vinyl. One copy came in a normal Nevermind sleeve with a press release included. Another two came in a "Simply Vinyl promo LP" sleeve. The handwritten text are identical on both spotted copies.

Simply Vinyl released Nevermind, In Utero, and MTV Unplugged In New York in 1998 as audiophile re-issues on 180 gram virgin vinyl.

The first editions, which have A/B-1-1- stamped in the matrix codes, were mastered by Abbey Road and manufactured in UK by EMI. In Utero and Unplugged also have the names of the Abbey Road mastering engineer who did the cut handwritten in the matrix. There are 10 test pressings of each record, and they were only ever given to the label and mastering facility for quality control purposes and some were sent to shops as promotional copies. Most test pressings where white labels, but some may be silver and white Simply Vinyl promo labels (this may refer to the sleeves and not the labels). Test pressings were generally pressed on regular weight vinyl although some are on 180g. Nevermind appears to be on regular weight, test pressings of In Utero and Unplugged haven't been found.

EMI closed down in 2000, and from then Simply Vinyl pressed their records in Holland. The records were re-cut by Harry Stoker who had been the main cutting engineer for Sony since 1968. He is now retired. The records which start with 08 in the matrices were all mastered and manufactured in Holland. This means there should be another set of test pressings for the Simply Vinyl releases.
