Eurogram S.A.

Madrid, Spain

The related Iberofon page has recently been rewritten. This page will follow soon. Parts of the information received about the Iberofon and Eurogram pressing plants in Spain sound quite strange and unusual compared to industry standards at the time, so the veracity of all the information presented on these two pages cannot be confirmed. For the time being the information is still presented, but please be critical.

Eurogram was a small pressing plant owned by Polygram. They tried to set up an independent plant, but in the middle of the process they ran out of money and only kept the pressing machines and processing equipment. In addition to pressing Polygram records, Eurogram also pressed for Iberofon when they were busy. Eurogram often pressed their reissues. [1]

Iberofon cut the masters especially for Eurogram, most often or always lacquers. The matrix codes were machine stamped, and, if lacquers, started with "850", identifying the lathe Iberofon used to cut them. [1] The Lithium 12" (GET 21815 (3B)) matrix codes start with "EUR" instead. The matrix codes follow the pattern below, with the Nevermind (GEF 24425 (5C)) reissue as an example, also shown in image 1:

Side A
850 GEF 24425 = *A*1
Side B
850 GEF 24425 = *B*2

The last "2" on side B probably means it was the second cut of side B. The original cut may have been unsuccessful, or two (or more) sets of lacquers were made to speed up the process.

Iberofon sometimes also processed the metal plates, but Eurogram usually did that themselves as the processes and machines were different. While Iberofon stampers had a small center hole, Eurogram stampers had a very large center hole. Most Eurogram pressings have a small circle at the beginning of the label, which outlines the center hole of their plating machines. They had to cut the plates if they requested them from Iberofon, which was a difficult process. The two plants also used different acids when plating the lacquers, Eurogram actually claimed their system resulted in higher quality. [1]
